The primal majesty of Shannon Funchess’s voice must be heard to be believed; a deep androgynous growl that surges and soars to hair-raising peaks. With Bruno Coviello, Funchess founded the group Light Asylum, a darkly romantic synth outfit by turns soulful and banging, tough and poppy, retro and ultra-modern. Equally inspired by Nina Simone and Depeche Mode, this former choirgirl has two feet firmly planted in the present, embracing the chaos of the modern music industry and sharing her vocal gifts with the bands Teengirl Fantasy, TV on the Radio, !!!, LCD Soundsystem and Telepathe.
